I figured out why your iPhone network gets a little flakey...
You all have one. You're all on one network. In Melbourne, I have FIVE networks to choose from... Including Telstras Next G network which I'm afraid to say... Is indeed... By far... The best iPhone netwok on the planet. Seriously... As I sit here in Peets at cow hollow - EVERY SINGLE PERSON has an iPhone.... (Side note - the number of laptops in coffee shops is going down as well - bodes well for Apple on January 26th) No wonder there are network issues!
