Politics And Internet Marketing Should NOT mix BUT…

Now

I just want to state that this post is not about politics - it's about Marketing

It's about the politics of marketing and the marketing of politics

This is not an endorsement - While I am wildly fascinated by politics - I don't think it's my place to use any platform to push a view. You have CNN and Fox  for that and more importantly the citizen bloggers.

But I saw this video...

And I knew right then and then....

Politics and the art of getting elected just changed...

For Ever.

First - let's go to the video tape (and for those of you who do not support this candidate - remeber this post is about marketing not politics!!!)

That was superb (from a marketing point of view - and bluntly a political one as well)

Let's look at just some of the factors...

1. You Tube - Three Million Views already... Do I need to remind you that You Tube is not even TWO YEARS OLD! - You tube has changed the game and praise the deity of your choice for that.

BTW ---  Apple TV has just released it's upgrade which takes the level of youtube intergration to the point of brilliance (yes I'm an Apple Fan boy - but MARK MY WORDS - Apple TV is a game changer - just like the iPod. Even Julie gives it the thumbs up! It's dead simple to operate - movie rental rocks and so does you tube - oh and a little thing called Flickr....)

2. Mash Ups  - the taking of a bunch of media and "Mashing"it together to make something really cool. The technology exists so that anyone can do this...anyone.

3. The Mix of Online  and Offline - real success comes from a mixture of the two - don't let anyone tell you different

4. The Power of Emotion - Emotion makes decisions - Logic Justifies Them

5. The Power Of Belief - So many people waste so much of their lives thinking we can change peoples beliefs and minds - news flash - you can't! The only peron you can change the beliefs of is ...YOU. A hardend supporter of one of the other candidates will probably find many faults with the video - oh it's just liberal stars...etc,etc and what ever they believe is ....correct...for them. We would all save a lot of energy as marketers if we focused on the people who actually WANT to hear the message...

And I'm sure there are many more...

This is an amazing time to be alive.

Ed

PS RUN, don't walk, RUN to check out the new Apple TV - it's a game changer.

  1. Spot on Ed.

Look how far Ron Paul got using the power of the internet. I read about Will.i.am getting inspired by Barack Obama’s speech a while ago, and what he’s created is truly superb. It’s a speech that’s had a lot of attention paid to it, and rightly so.

I may be an Aussie, but I follow U.S politics very closely, and this presidential race thus far has been incredibly fascinating to watch. It’s truly unique in the sense of how the internet has played such a crucial role.

I won’t get on a platform here either, it’s your blog not mine, but I will say this, I learn about the real politics of the U.S from John Stewart and The Daily Show, as well as The Colbert Report, than I do from any cable news from the U.S.

We live in exciting times indeed.

    Cheers,
    Nez

  2. Be careful of change for change sake. Iran wanted change from the Shah Pahlavi, and it got….
    Khomeini.
Has anyone heard an actual new idea from any of the presidential candidates? It’s whatever you want it to be. That’s the marketing strategy.

  3. oh yeah – very thought provoking! Brilliantly put together. So man things in this world have changed ….as we know it….

  4. WOW – that was brilliant!

I’m a huge fan of Will.i.am and the BEP’s anyway.

I also thought the use of Black & White was strategic and clever. Keeps the focus and attention on the message and people delivering it and also invokes an ‘old world’, secure type of emotion (IMO).

    Caro :-)
