  1. First, Stompernet and Frank Kern stuff, excellent. Mega thanks!

Secondly, personal stuff - great story to hear, but sorry you had to go through it all. Makes you take a minute and realize what is important in life. Glad it worked out well in the end.

  2. Glad you and the family are OK and still have those precious photos. Looking forward to hearing more from you in 2008.

Glad you didn’t try to kung-fu his ass, although it’s good to hear you have kept your sense of humour.

    Happy New Year!

    Lisa

P.S. Pretty sure that was Sugarland not Taylor Swift

  3. Hey Ed,

Thanks for sharing… I enjoyed the story.
    Really, really enjoyed it.

I lived in the bay area until four years ago. Luckily never had an experience quite like that.

I did however have a police officer pull a gun on me once up here in Washingston state three years ago after my co-worker accidentally set off a burgler alarm. That was back when I installed security systems.

I think I’m safer now running an internet business.

I have a quick question for you:
What type of device are you using to record your podcasts?

    Thanks,

    - Aaron

  4. Hey bro,

Sure was scary to hear about that with the girls with you. What an asshole. I’m glad you got some justice, and most importantly that Hannah and Molly didn’t have to witness the whole thing.

    Geez, still can’t believe it.

And what you are saying about backing up photo’s is so true.

PEOPLE, BACK UP YOUR PHOTOS ASAP.

Just the other day I was surfing with our buddy Russ of “Team Faceblood Fame”, and not but 45 seconds after he set his backpack in the sand, some jerk was off and running with it.

Now the $600 camera can easily be replaced. But all his holiday photos with family and friends, and a list of other special photos have now vanished. He was pretty bummed about it.

Most of you will never so lucky as Ed to get stuff back like that, so seriously, back up the important stuff. Especially pics of the kids, cuz you’ll kick yourself for years if you can’t look back at those memories.

Anyhow, glad you are safe Ed.

And hopefully 2008 will allow you to relax a bit more and enjoy the good life instead of dealing with attorneys and lame fiasco’s with armed gunmen.

    Cheers,

    J-Mo

  5. I don’t know which is worse, getting held up at gunpoint or 280 to Cupertino.

Your taste in coffee is impeccable, Peet’s *is* the best.

So sorry my homeland has treated you so shabbily! All joking aside, that is very scary and I’m glad you and your girls are ok. You were very smart not to screw around with the guy–your instincts were to protect your girls and you did that wonderfully.

You’re taking it well, I would still be a basket case esp. if it happened with my own little dude in tow.

  6. You’re such a lovely man Ed! I love your realness & honesty.

I totally get the instinct to want to protect your loved ones - be it two or four legged.

And even if you were not as available as you would have liked last year…when you were, it was still pure gold!

Here’s to 2008 being better for us all, than last year!

    Caro x :-)

  7. hi,

well you sound like a nice and genuine guy.

It would suck to get mugged like that.

The stompernet video i saw yesterday was amazing, with the great info it contained.

  8. Most disturbing news and I give high praise to your proposal to give the thief of dark complexion the kung fu. I personally myself favour the groin kick with a quick eye gouge followed by running away with all the rapid movement of the cobra.

In my village we know how to deal with this bewildering situation of the thievery:

  9. Great tale Ed! Sorry you had to go through it, but thank you for sharing.

Hopefully the rest of 2008 will be a little less eventful.

  10. Wow Ed - scary story. And sorry to hear 2007 was full of trials for you… I’m really looking forward to 2008; I think this is gonna be a gangbusters year!

  11. Hey Ed,

The best way to cure mishap is laughter. I love Peets coffee - always drink straight Espresso with a touch of cream.

If you want to laugh and feel better go to this post, you could give it some love if you are so inclined.

  12. Hi Ed,

I’m sorry this happened to you while visiting here in California. For me, “poopy in the panties” would have begun when the guy mentioned a gun–of course you toughed it out til you got to the lineup!!! The only thing that made me smile was thinking of the fun the Beverly Hills Police Department must have had during their encounter with you! You probably made their day with your quick wit in a trying situation. Of course they had no idea who you are!!! And that you have following! I’m really glad it all worked out.

And your taste in all genres of music is superb, as usual. But I think you meant Jennifer Nettles on “Stay”.

On the business side, I was surprised to see you plug another Stomper product launch. My experience with Stomper Simple was really bad, and I read their forum’s many comments from dissatisfied people. I sincerely question why, when you’re a truly caring and equitable person (and a master marketer)–you would again promote marketers who don’t practice what they preach.

In the sales letter you link to, they again tell us that concern for the customer is paramount, relationship is everything and that your “cred” can be ruined for years if you blow it. But many of us were dumbfounded when a “simple” thing like a messed up video tutorial was ignored no matter how many people asked for help with it and asked if it could be corrected so they could proceed. It was at a critical time, right before everyone at Stomper “left” for an event, and the whole thing came to a disappointing standstill for a lot of us.

In our team calls, we asked each other “how hard is it” to just get the video in sync so we could move on? They were promoting outsourcing–so how hard would it have been to pay some kid $10 to fix the problem? The “simple” question of where to install Wordpress (root or not), repeated over a hundred times, went totally unanswered. Attacks on members who asked for help or correction of the sound with the pics on the video were way out of line, comments were deleted, people expelled from the program, etc. I posted a comment about it on the release of the drag video they posted promoting another product, and was attacked by people who seemed like real koolaid drinkers.

I mean NO disrespect to you because your work with us through the Challenges has been such a gift, and your communications with us have been sincere. I have no way of knowing if it comes as a surprise to you that Stomper lost credibility with so many, but I’d like to ask if you would address it. I appreciate your thoughts. Thank you. So glad you’re still with us!!!

  13. Hey Ed!
Good to know you and the girls are ok! There’s a lot of weirdness in the Golden State. I grew up in Silicon Valley and it’s not as nice as it used to be. LA is even worse.

    Peet’s RULES! Starbucks drools LOL.

  14. Tim Wilkinson says:

    Hi Ed,

Glad you and the kids are ok, unfortunately could happen anywhere, - not just USA - the key is act cool and you did just right! Really glad you nailed the guy later - great result!

As to the Chris’s comment above, sorry you didn’t enjoy Stomper - I joined as a member a Simple Member last year and am now making good money plus getting fees from acting as a consultant on SEO and split testing - all Courtesy of moving into Stompernet full. There is so much info you can get lost in learning, the key is to act and just do something and then improve it using Stomper techniques.

Ed your Dominiche and 30 day challenge stuff are supurb keep it up and remember don’t fight it out unless your better trained and armed - it’s just not worth a mistake when you have family!
    Keep teaching.

    Tim

  15. So glad you and yours are well!

    Thanks for sharing.

    Susan

  16. Ed,
I wish I could say “glad you are okay” but that would be BS. You’re not. The terror of the event will live in your mind for ever. I am a positive person and believe most people are good, however it’s that one per cent that put us all through these type of life changing momets.

You and every person concerned for their personal safty needs this. Check out www.ConcealedComfort.com For those who live in California, you need to get your law makers on the ball. Right now two types of people carry guns in your state. Cops and Criminals. Good guys need to be able to level the playing field. California chooses to allow it’s good citizens to be victims and that needs to change.
