Ed,
Your ‘humble opinion’, as always – awesome.
Following on from The Thirty Day Challenge, I like to think of the internet in terms of ‘dry marketing’ and ‘wet marketing’.
Dry marketing, or as you describe ‘interruption marketing’, lacks the flow of a cool, meandering stream or river. More like struggling to climb a sand dune, loosing your footing, stumbling and really frustrating.
Wet marketing allows you to float along without interruption and when you come to a fork in the river, it’s a natural progression that allows you to keep drifting which ever way you choose.
Remember in the eighties Bon Jovi’s album ‘Slippery When Wet’? Now that’s a great phrase to keep in mind when marketing.
In my humble opinion
Steph.
You’re so right about facebook.
In his opening address to developers
Mark Zuckerberg said -
“Today, together, we’re going to
start a movement”
We have yet to see a fraction of the
full potential of facebook for
marketers.
Imagine having the dream challenge
of one recent facebook application developer
who sent out an urgent request for
advice -
“Ok so I have 400,000 people using
my application what do I do now?”
And this is just the start of such
incidents.
Thanks for the great vid ED.

Dearly Beloved Ed:
Thanks for this piece.
With the evolution of new ideas by the second and the amalgamation of everything under such houses like FaceBook, the time is around the corner where to stay out of the services will simply mean… TO NOT EXIST.
There is the person SETTING the stage. There is the person SITTING down to watch and there is the person being WATCHED. It is very rare to be the three people at the same time. One will have to choose where to belong.
Thinking ahead of the horizon and knowing in advance what to expect might be the foresight that is needed to survive in the nearest future.
What else can be said?
Remain blessed and a blessing.
Regards,
Olakunle Solomon Fatoye.
Hey Ed,
If 30dc is any proof, they’re dead wrong. You’re absolutely right. And I say, we just leave ‘em in the dust!

Ed,
I’m not against Facebook or other web2.0 properties. My beef is how people are spending their time using them.
Remember it’s all about ROI. And personally I don’t see many people getting a decent ROI. Yeah I know it’s free, but time is money.
However, I still think these platforms are viable. I have a close friend who is making tens of thousands of dollars a month right now on Facebook. About $50,000 a month on Myspace, and more money on other web2.0 sites.
It’s working like Gangbusters. However, do you think he’s actually lifting a finger?
Of course not, he’s got a lab of cheap workers doing it all for him.
It’s my opinion that marketers should be doing just that… MARKETING. And that’s where my beef is. During all this web2.0 chat people are spending all this time playing around but forgetting the art of “SELLING”.
I think someones time would be better served submerging themselves into the world of Gary Halbert, John Carlton, Clayton Makepeace, David Garfinkle, etc. Because these are the skills that will really bring in the money.
The web2.0 sites are just a mechanism to get your face on offers in front of people. But if you are a piss poor salesman all the traffic in the world is useless.
And I don’t think the web2.0 traffic is necessarily untargeted. I just think these people are not in a “Buying Mood”. They are having fun with their friends and playing with cool applications. Most of these people detest seeing sales messages.
Whereas someone who just typed “How to build a garden” into a google search is a much hotter prospect then a bunch of people in a gardening group on Facebook.
And as far as “Persona” based marketing, you are 100% correct. And heck, you know I’ve been doing that ever since the day I met you. Way too many marketers miss out on this.
Guys like yourself have way more opportunity to sell because people “KNOW YOU”. You can’t help but know who Ed Dale is if you are into internet marketing.
And hey, people buy from those they know, like, and trust. And the things you and I do with video are increasing all 3 of those things.
I don’t discount the power of the things you are doing. I just mention that people need to value their time, and use their efforts more wisely.
If at the end of the month they have not generated a trackable amount of cash, but say “well I have 500 friends”, that doesn’t mean much to me.
So I just encourage people to hire assistants to do most of this web2.0 for niche products. And after a bit of time the assistants are not cost effective, then the web2.0 platform is obviously not a viable strategy at this point.
Web2.0 is not going away. It’s here to stay and is changing the way people use the internet.
However,
Salesmanship is always going to be the same. Either you can sell, or you cant.
Sadly, it’s not the most attractive thing to sell, and most just don’t know how to teach it.
And this is where I feel the market is being cheated. Before people focus on all types of traffic mechanisms, they severely need to learn how to actually “sell something”. Because these weak salesletters are just not cutting the mustard for most people and they are off in left field wondering… “Why didn’t it work”.
I love the stuff you are doing Ed. It’s just for me, I have to focus what I’m good at… “Selling stuff and spreading my personal”.
If I want to take advantage of the web2.0 properties, I’ll let the assistants take care of that.
Keep up the good work.

PS: I ran into one of the first 30 Day Challengers last night in Vegas. He just sold 2 of his sites for $1,000,000. Yep, 1 Million Smackers!
I’d mention who it was, but don’t want to expose anything if he’s trying to keep it on the down low. It’s just cool to see fellow Challengers and Undies having great success.
Continued Success!
I got the message – 1 character for each Niche – splended
Hi
Great stuff Ed…..once again.
Also, I like J Mo’s point also. Common sense is all we need.
But, take a look at this about Facebook
