What To Do About Squidoo

Change on the Internet never stops. I’ve been away just a few short weeks and now Google have decided to give Squidoo a little slap…and just when I was beginning to get some great results!

Dan Raine (of Immediate Edge fame) and I got on the blower as soon as it become obvious that Google had taken a dislike to Squidoo and we brainstormed some reasons why Google may have taken the action they have and also some remedial steps you can take as a consequence.

We had intended that this call would only be available to members of Immediate Edge and Search Engine Trust but I’ve decided to make it available on the Tubbynerd blog for all my loyal readers.

  1. Ed - Thanks for keeping up on these different aspects of online business… and then sharing your findings with your readers. The one constant in life is change. I guess the fact remains… provide a truly useful user experience with good content, service, and resources, and they will reward you with return traffic & the search engines will reward you will more roads to your door.

    Thanks again,

  2. I just wanted to clarify something.

    How.

How did Google implement this slap.
It would only take Google about 15 seconds to implement the “Slap”. They simply find a footprint in Squidoo page creation and tweak that part of the algorithm. It can be any factor that is common to Squidoo and not found in other sites. All of the slaps have been this way.

  3. Yep….what Chuck said is true. I’ve just started using Squidoo and haven’t completed my first lens and this piece of news is a blow. Too sudden… What can Squidoo-ians do?

  4. Thank you for the info. Could the “slap” be due to abuse?

  5. Kelly & everyone - nothing in the Internet Marketing world is constant.

And as Ed & Dan talk about - Ezinearticles were slapped (before my IM time) and they are doing gang busters.

Squidoo will come back - as it’s in their best business interests to.

How long and in what new improved way - time will reveal.

I am already seeing new improvements in my Squidoo ratings again - back onto first page for some of my lens.

    Caro :-)

  6. My lens never left the top ten. For the life of me I can’t figure out why some lenses got hit, but mine did not. Could it be that because my lens is so new (only a month old). Just a guess.

  7. Hey Ed - thank you for sharing my interview with Seth Godin in your other post.

I have been doing some more research - I still am seeing lenses in the top 10 of many of the niches I am testing . . .

It is not all of them - but there is some “power” still left in the old ship
