Frank and I would always argue about who is the better guitarist - Eric Clapton or Derek Trucks
In what was a colliding of the galaxies I got to see Derek and Eric playing on stage together.
As Much as I hate to say it - Derek PWND Eric
I give you exhibit A
The cool thing was hearing Derek playing so much blues - He was jaw dropping good.

IMHO when it comes to playing slide guitar, one of the all greats has to be Johnny Winter.
Two words…
Duane Allman
Even though Clapton is the master, he handed the torch to the best young slide guitarist I’ve seen since
Duane Allman. I saw Derek when he was 16 and he came to Canada with Butch Trucks in the late 80’s.
Even then his chops were close to Eric’s then. Just the way it is Ed.

I have been playing guitar for over 40 years and have in and out of bands most of my life (unfortunately for me I hated the road). One thing I learned a long time ago is that no one guitarist should be compared to another. But I take exception to this with Eric Clapton. Remember who the everyone called “God” and that is Eric. The reason for that is he CREATED what the kids copy today. There is no question that Derek Trucks is an accomplished musician but looks at his everyday influences – The Allman Brothers Band. His Uncle was a founding member and one of the drummers. You can bet he spent a lot of time with Dickie Betts, Duane Allman and the Allman Brothers. He even plays with the Allman Brothers Band. Check out Eric Clapton’s song book. It is stunning to say the least! Just my 2 cents.

I wish that Derek Trucksis and his band visit Germany in the next monthes.
Frankly speaking to comare between tow big guitarists like Eric Clapton and Derek Trucksis quite difficult for not a music expert. But as a Derek Trucksis fan, I find him very talented and very inspiring.
I love playing my guitar but slide is very tough to learn. I hope that one day I can play like that.
