What Has “Sick Puppies” got to do with Internet Marketing
Everything.
First of all watch this. I’ll Wait
That was an amazing video (and the song rules to)
I had seen this video once before (so had NINE MILLION other you tube’rs) and had not twigged that this great song and killer video was done in the pitt street mall in Sydney Australia.
Not very observant!
How does this tie into Marketing…
The lead singer of the sick puppies - Shimon Moore (Who mark my words will be a superstar - he wields a gibson ES-335 with menace and has a great voice AND has the best “marketing” patter of any singer that I have heard in ages!) decided to shoot a video of this guy who was offering free hugs (you really see the story in the video)
Anywho
The genius was attaching their new song to this video -Â as I write this 9,806,946 have viewed the video since the 22nd of September
Just consider
9,806,946 views (or as they say in the Record biz - spins)
Holy C**P!!
That’s probably the most publically played song in history (or at the very least the last four months…)
Seriously - they are head spinning numbers
And that’s the promise of Web 2.0
BUT
You need to think about this marketing in a very different way…
To really reap the benefits of Web 2.0 Marketing you need these three skills
AV (making audio and videos)
Tech (You need to know that AJAX is not a kitchen cleaner)
and
The ability to be just a smidge creative
The good thing is that these are all very learnable skills.
I have been part of a closed door test on a stunning Web 2.0 teaching program (For the record - it’s got nothing to do with me - I wish it did!!) the first newsletter has the best content I have seen of any marketers newsletter (Yes, Including Ultraunderachievers - and that was very good…)
I’m hoping that he will let me share some of the details with you soon.
In the mean time keep well!
Ed
PS The Sick Puppies have been on all of the major US shows including Oprah and Ellen, and of course landed a major record deal with Virgin. They are an amazing power trio - check this out

Yeah …. great song …. great street smart video telling a story and a clever marketing singer.
Caught this a while back on some Sat morning music show and just had to check it out. They did an interview with the guy - simon.. shimon… anyway, a switched on dude.
Thanks for the reminder Ed. Great to see the underdog winning and being reminded we can all do this stuff with your recipe above!
Sincerely
Lordy
Viral marketing used to perfection!

Hey Ed… don’t know if you saw this:

Sick Puppies is such a cool name - and so “down-under”
Ed - I’d recommend reading Who Weekly regularly (US is People Magazine) as they covered these guys a couple of months back - and have a section on youtube and other internet ‘to watch’ stuff. Web 2.0 stuff.
What a beautiful way to start the morning - how can you not feel good seeing that.
Hey Ed,
That has got my head spinning. What a great way of showing how to build relationships by giving and then getting.
Keep the content rolling in your own inimitable style.
I am off to my first internet seminar at the age of 41 next month - Jv Alaert in Orlando.
It’s about time i took some action.
