New Series - Buying And Selling Websites 101

Ola Undies,

After two weeks of traveling around the world meeting Ultra’s and Underachievers alike. There was one thing that everyone wanted to ask about…

Buying and Selling Websites

These are smart cookies - 2007 will be the year of Buying and Selling websites. It will be huge.

There is a problem.

There are a couple of MASSIVE issues that people will get caught up on. So I thought I would do a video cast series to show you the basic’s.

The first video is here and explains why I am doing this and the crazy thing that I am going to do this week. (You can turn off your pitch detectors - you will here why I’m doing this in the Video)

Now - if you take your eyes over to the right hand side of the page  - there is a link witha video and detailed instructions on how to get the new series in iTunes.

I think RSS Feed based marketing is something we are all going to need to get used to as email becomes more and more useless as a marketing tool (don’t know what an RSS feed is - i explain all in the video)

Oh  - if you have a question about Buying and Selling sites - Leave a comment here, I may just use a vidcast to answer your question.

    Hi Ed,

You’ve given us great info. so far on the buying and selling parts of the process; very exciting stuff!

My question is: Is there more you can teach us about the process of prepping a site for sale to make it as appealing as possible to prospective buyers?

For example, if my strategy *before* I started building an Undie site was that I was going to sell it (eg, to make a lump sum of $$$), is there anything I should focus on or do differently during the creation of it than if I were intending on keeping my site as a long-term asset? Or is it all about tweaking the site after it’s up and running?

    Thanks!

ps: the San Diego conference was truly awesome! There’s gotta be a way to get us Undies/Ultras together in person more than once a year! :-)

  2. Hello Ed,
Been trying to follow you for some months now, right back when you came up with a real nifty idea;that of ASKING targetted prospects ‘wot they wanted’?…remember?
But for the most part have not been able to run with you ‘cos as an Aussie aged pensioner-and you know what that means, mate, dont you-I’ve been unable to afford it…..so I’m still trying to make my first dollars on the net, even tho I’m 75 years young…..fair dinkem, mate
Anyhow the reason I’m talking is that I’m unable to view the entire video as it stops after your intro about your overseas trip…..any ideas?
But reading your stuff tends to confirm what I’m reading on the net in general, but for me I dont know enough about howtoo intergrate BLOG,Social Bookmarking and RSS feed so that they all create a massive duplicating effect-as far as traffic is concerned that is-but perhaps you can help a willing to learn very senior citizen who lives just down the road from you in Lilydale in the beautiful contryside of Victoria-make a few extra dollars from this very challenging market we call the Internet?
Hope to hear from you soon
    Respectfully,
    Laurence Chilcott

  3. Hi Laurence,

I thought I’d jump in here and see if I can help out :-)

And how cool are you - determined to make your first dollar (I can’t even get my parents to go near a computer and they still don’t have mobile phones!)

Can I suggest you go to http://www.apple.com/itunes and download and install the latest version of itunes.

This is a must as you know - and here’s the thing - even if you already have it on your computer currently - you MUST get the updated version (I know I had an older version as I was slack in updating - and it wont run everything smoothly due to the ongoing improvements in technology).

Then once you have done that - choose the itunes store option under a heading STORE

And then in the top right hand corner where is says ’search’ type in: Underachiever.

You will see towards the bottom left an option that says: Underachiever Life with a mug shot of Ed & Frank (aka FrEd) - you want to choose subscribe (its free) and then you will see under the section labelled Podcasts (under LIBRARY) it appear.

Then you can simply click onto the link for it to play.

And in the bottom left hand side you will see a little video screen with Mr Dale beaming out. Double click on that and it will increase in size.

And enjoy watching - it runs seamlessly without any stopping and starting.

If you are reading this and thinking ‘well I’ve done all of that already’ - I then have no idea what might be happening :-(

    Best to you

    Caro :-)

Hi Ed, Gary here (uh, I mean, Brian here)

I’d like to hear more on how you structure offers.

In particular, getting the website seller to be your bank, and carry back a seller held mortgage on the website.

How do you overcome their objections.

How much do you offer them down.

How long is the duration of the mortgage.

How much interest do you pay them - if any.

I’d like to see how closely this parallels the real estate market.

Talk to you later Fred, (I mean Ted, oh, sorry I meant Ed)
    :)

  6. Ed I guess you’re gonna become the king of
buying n sellin’ websites (like jeff walker became
    of product launches)

wanna ask you if there is a specific place
(a forum, a community) where I can go to sell
    my websites.

or is this all done by personally finding someone
    ready to buy?

i ain’t got something big yet..
but if i could sell the smaller sites..

they’re in cool niches n doing about $1000
    a month.

where can i sell them.. n how much would you
    recommed as a asking price?

heck i need a whole course on it!
    (hint hint!!)

    thanx for everythin’ you do!

  7. Linda Abbit says:

    Hi Ed,

What type of records should we be keeping as our site grows that we would need to show a potential buyer?

Do people really create new niche sites (a la TDC2) and then sell them right away and do it over & over & over & over — without even growing the niche/website some before selling it? I was surprised that at the end of TDC2 Ultras were really interested in buying these brand new sites before they were really even a proven entity (other than a dollar was made).

Miss seeing everyone in person! But, you’ll be happy to know that a friend’s daughters were wearing crocs and my husband Jeff and I were having a discussion about them just tonight! I was describing your pretty blue ones to him, and explaining that no, you don’t wear socks with them! LOL

    Cheers,
    Linda
